BLADE

Artiste légendaire, BLADE est surtout un des tous premiers protagonistes du graffiti, actif dès les années 70. Nommé par ses pairs le « King », 
il est de ces artistes dont la profusion d’œuvres sur train (plus de 5000 à son actif) lui a valu un respect
sans faille du mouvement et l’influence artistique qu’il a su insuffler à l’art du graffiti 
fait de lui un artiste incontournable. 

En 2010, à l’occasion  de l’exposition « Subway Art 25th : Martha Copper, Henry Chalfant et Blade» 
(Taxie Gallery & Bailly Contemporain, Quai Voltaire Paris) Martha Cooper et Henry Chalfant lui offrent de leurs clichés (mais non signés)  
quand d’autres sont des clichés de la collection et personnelle de BLADE.
Chaque image révèle une partie de l’histoire de l’artiste. 
En archiviste convaincu (il conserve tout et documente tout) chaque œuvre porte la date à laquelle il a peint le train, 
et parfois y a même indiqué son âge. 

Cette série est une série inédite dans la production de l’artiste et en dehors de ses œuvres sur toile. 

Imaginée à l’occasion de l’exposition de 2010 et à titre exceptionnelle,
elle est un trésor d’archives des œuvres sur trains de BLADE.
Les tirages datent tous de 2009.

BLADE

Steven Ogburn, American painter, born in 1957.

A Legendary artist, BLADE is above all one of the very first protagonists of graffiti, active from the 70s. Named by his peers the «King», he is one of those artists whose profusion of works on trains (more than 5000 to his credit) earned him unfailing respect from the graffiti movement; and the artistic influence he injected into the art of graffiti makes him an essential artist.

In 2010, on the occasion of the exhibition “Subway Art 20th: Martha Copper, Henry Chalfant and Blade” (Taxie Gallery & Hélène Bailly, Quai Voltaire Paris) Henry Chalfant and Martha Cooper offered some of their photos on which the artist drew – a unique and exceptional series in the production of BLADE. Others are snapshots from his personal collection. Each image reveals part of his history, some documented and told by himself.
